An elderly couple, Abe and Esther, were flying out to Australia for a beautiful two-week vacation to celebrate their milestone 50th wedding anniversary.
Suddenly, the captain’s voice crackled frantically over the public address system:
“Ladies and gentlemen, I am afraid I have some very grave news. All of our engines have completely failed, and we are going to attempt a dangerous emergency landing. Fortunately, I see an uncharted island directly below us, and we should be able to touch down on the beach. However, the odds are heavily against us ever being rescued. We may have to live on this island for the rest of our days!”
Thanks to the incredible skill of the flight crew, the plane miraculously managed to land safely on the sandy shore.
An hour later, after the chaos had settled, Abe turned to his wife, his hands still trembling. “Esther, did we remember to pay our $5,000 PBS charity pledge check before we left?”
“No, sweetheart,” she responded softly, hugging him tight. “I completely forgot.”
Abe, still deeply shaken, swallowed hard and asked, “Esther, did we pay our American Express card bill this month?”
“Oy, no! I’m so sorry, Abie. I forgot to mail that check too,” she sighed.
“One last thing, Esther,” Abe whispered, looking around at the desolate jungle. “Did you remember to send the checks for the Visa and MasterCard?”
“Oh, please forgive me, Abie,” Esther begged, tears welling up in her eyes. “I didn’t send those either!”
Hearing this, Abe grabbed her by the shoulders and gave her the biggest, most passionate kiss he had given her in forty years.
Startled, Esther pulled away, breathless. “Wow! Why did you just kiss me like that?”
Abe smiled serenely, kicked back on the sand, and replied:
“They’ll find us.”
