An ambulance carrying several psychiatric patients was driving down a country road when—BANG!—one of its tires went flat.
The driver pulled over, grabbed the spare tire, and started changing it.
Everything was going smoothly… until he accidentally kicked four of the wheel bolts straight into a storm drain.
He stared into the gutter in disbelief.
“Oh, you’ve got to be kidding me! How am I supposed to put the tire back on now?”
One of the patients was watching from inside the ambulance.
After a moment, he called out,
“Hey, buddy! Why don’t you take one bolt off each of the other three wheels?”
The driver stopped and looked at him.
“Then use those three bolts to secure the replacement tire. Each wheel will still have three bolts, which is enough to get you safely to a shop and buy four new ones.”
The driver stared at him.
Then he grinned.
“Wow! That’s actually brilliant!”
He shook his head in amazement.
“You’re pretty smart… so why are you in a psychiatric hospital?”
The patient smiled and replied,
“Because I’m crazy…”
“…not stupid like the guy who lost four bolts in a storm drain!”
The driver looked at the gutter…
Then at the patient…
Then quietly went back to work.
