Letting Younger Sister Wait For The Bus Alone, Teen Helps Blind Woman Cross The Street

In today’s world, it’s nice to know a simple act of kindness doesn’t go unnoticed.

When Dontarius Caldwell, 15, the Aiken High School freshman, was snapped in a photo showing him helping a blind woman cross the street, he wasn’t doing it for likes or clicks.
The boy said: “I was just trying to help. I really didn’t think I would be on camera,”.
The photo then went viral online, showing Dontarius Caldwell helping the woman at Hamilton Avenue in College Hill.

He said: “I was just helping the elderly, giving a helping hand. The key word is helping hand. Everybody gotta get a helping hand,”

Accordingly, like any other day, the young teen was on his phone and playing games while he was waiting on his school bus. He was waiting alongside his younger sister named Diamond.

Dontarius recalled: “Diamond was listening to music, then she looked over and I looked over to see what she was looking at,”

Diamond saw the woman who was struggling to press the button for the crosswalk sign at that time, and she urged her brother to do something.

Diamond said: “I told Dontarius that I think she blind, you should get up and go help her, and he got up and went to go help her cross the street two times while I waited for the bus to come,” .

Dontarius said: “I said, ‘Ma’am do you need some help?’ And she said, ‘Yes.’ She gave me her hand and I held it,”

According to Dontarius, he didn’t do anything special. He was just raised to do the right thing.

He continued: “If you be kind, what happens (to them) happens to you.”

Dontarius was given a key to the school as a reward for his kindness.
