There are many uses other than disinfection that most people don’t know about. It can even be used in cosmetics!
1. Getting rid of bed bugs
Alcohol can eliminate bed bugs and make your mattress spotless. Fill a spray bottle with rubbing alcohol and spray it liberally on your pillows and mattress. Since bed bugs lay eggs, it’s important to repeat this process several times to get rid of them completely.
2. Disinfect the mattress
Some dust mites, germs, dead skin cells, or sweat residue can linger on or under the surface of your mattress. Rubbing alcohol is an incredible disinfectant that removes any stench from the mattress.
3. Deodorant replacement
Rubbing alcohol kills bacteria. But be sure to use it only temporarily, as long exposure to alcohol can irritate the skin.

Rubbing alcohol is also great for getting rid of lice. Fill a spray bottle with alcohol and add a few drops of lavender oil. Take it out and apply the mixture generously to your scalp and hair. Comb your hair to remove dead lice.
5. Remove nail polish
Regular nail polish remover often contains acetone, a harsh chemical that can damage your nails. Pure rubbing alcohol is a possible alternative. It may take a little longer to completely remove the polish, but your nails will not be damaged.

Rubbing alcohol makes a great base for a homemade hand sanitizer. Mix 4 oz. of aloe vera gel, half a tablespoon of isopropyl alcohol and a few drops of tea tree oil and put it in a sealable bottle. Homemade hand sanitizer is that easy!
