A rich, old, and extremely stingy man was lying on his deathbed.
He called his wife over and said, “I have one final request.”
She leaned closer.
“I’m leaving you half of my fortune in a bank account with your name on it.”
His wife smiled.
“But I want the other half buried with me!”
He proudly added, “I worked hard for every penny, and I’m not leaving anybody anything! I’m taking it all with me!”
His wife didn’t argue.
She simply nodded and said, “Of course, dear.”
At his funeral, just before the casket was closed, she placed a small envelope inside.
Her friend whispered, “Wait… did you really put all his money in there?”
The wife smiled sweetly.
“Of course. I’m an honest woman.”
Her friend looked shocked.
“So you gave him all the cash?”
“No,” the wife replied.
“I wrote him a check.”
She paused and smiled.
“He can cash it whenever he figures out how.”
