How running a business feels these days…
A tax auditor arrived at a small company and got straight to the point.
“I need a complete list of your employees and their salaries,” he said.
The owner nodded. “Of course.”
He pointed toward the back office. “First, there’s Clarence. Been with me for three years. Reliable guy. I pay him about $5,000 a month plus benefits.”
The auditor wrote it down.
“Then,” the owner continued, “there’s the mentally challenged guy.”
The auditor looked up immediately.
The owner kept going.
“He basically runs the entire place. About 18 hours a day, does nearly 90% of the work. I only pay him $500 a month, no benefits. He’s constantly stressed out, so I sometimes buy him food… or a drink just so he can get through the day. And… well… he even gets to sleep with my wife from time to time.”
The auditor’s eyes widened. “I need to speak to this employee immediately.”
The owner nodded calmly.
He leaned back and said:
“That would be me.” 😂
