A fifth-grade teacher gave her students a homework assignment:
“Tonight, ask one of your parents to tell you a story with a moral.”
The next morning, the students shared their stories.
One kid talked about spilled milk.
Another talked about saving pennies.
Another gave the classic “honesty is the best policy” speech.
Finally, only Janie was left.
The teacher smiled.
“Janie, do you have a story with a moral?”
“Yes, ma’am!”
Janie stood proudly and began:
“My daddy told me about my mommy. She was a military pilot during Desert Storm.”
The teacher nodded.
Janie continued:
“Her plane was hit, and she had to parachute into enemy territory with only a flask of whiskey, a pistol, and a survival knife.”
The teacher’s smile slowly disappeared.
Janie continued:
“She drank the whiskey on the way down so the bottle wouldn’t break.”
The teacher blinked.
“When she landed, she found herself surrounded by enemy soldiers.”
“She fought her way through them using everything she had until she finally made it to safety.”
The teacher stared at her in disbelief.
“Good heavens, Janie! What on earth is the moral of that story?”
Janie smiled sweetly.
Then she said:
“Never mess with Mommy when she’s drunk.”
The teacher slowly sat down.
“Janie…”
“That may be the most important life lesson I’ve heard all year.”
