A wealthy man walked into an upscale restaurant and ordered the most expensive steak on the menu.
He took his time, enjoyed every bite, and then called for the check.
When the bill arrived, he examined it carefully.
Suddenly, his eyebrows shot up.
“Excuse me,” he said, tapping the receipt.
“What’s this extra $20 charge?”
The waiter leaned over.
“Which charge, sir?”
The man pointed at the bill.
“Right here. It says ‘Special Effort — $20.’”
The waiter smiled politely.
“Yes, sir. That’s correct.”
The man frowned.
“What exactly am I being charged for?”
The waiter took a deep breath.
“Well, sir… you wouldn’t believe the special effort it took to stop the chef from doing something unpleasant to your soup.”
The man looked confused.
“Why would he do that?”
The waiter smiled.
“Because you sent it back three times.”
The man stared at the bill.
Then he quietly paid the extra $20.
As he walked out, the waiter called after him:
“Thank you, sir! The chef says he’ll waive the ‘Self-Control Fee’ next time!”
