Sarah handed Jack a sack of potatoes and said,
“Honey, could you please cut out the eyes of the potatoes?”
“Sure thing!” Jack replied confidently.
Two minutes later, Sarah walked into the kitchen… and froze.
Every potato was covered in huge anime-style eyes drawn with a black marker.
And Jack was standing there, sobbing like he’d just lost a family member.
“Jack?! What on earth are you doing?”
Jack wiped away a tear.
“You told me to cut out the eyes of the potatoes!”
He pointed dramatically at the counter.
“Look at them, Sarah! I gave them eyes, and now they look so innocent!”
“I can’t look them in the eyes and then eat them! That’s basically murder!”
Sarah collapsed against the counter, laughing so hard she could barely breathe.
“Jack, you absolute donut!”
“I meant the little ‘eyes’ on the potato skins! Those tiny sprouts!”
Jack stared at the potato family.
Then he slowly looked at the knife in his hand.
“So… we’re not eating them?”
Sarah shook her head, still laughing.
Jack nodded seriously.
“Good. I’ve already named them.”
He picked up two potatoes and sighed.
“Looks like we’re ordering pizza tonight.”
